Plantu publie son premier dessin dans Le Monde en octobre 1972, sur la guerre du Vietnam. Il en illustre quotidiennement la une à partir de 1985. De 1980 à 1986, il collabore avec le journal Phosphore et publie dès 1991, une page hebdomadaire dans L'Express.
La même année, il obtient le "Prix du document rare" au Festival du Scoop d’Angers, pour avoir fait apposer sur le même dessin les signatures de Yasser Arafat et Shimon Peres, un an avant les Accords d'Oslo.

En 2006, Plantu et le Secrétaire général de l'ONU, Kofi Annan (prix Nobel de la Paix en 2001) organisent à New York un colloque qui sera à l’origine de Cartooning for Peace, association qui défend la liberté d'expression des dessinateurs de presse dans le monde entier et qui regroupe à ce jour, 130 dessinateurs.

Il a publié plus de 60 recueils de ses dessins (Le Monde éditions, Le Seuil).

Plantu published his first cartoon on Vietnam War in the newspaper Le Monde in October 1972.
His drawings were regularly published in the headlines since 1985.
From 1980 to 1986, he also worked for the magazine Phosphore and since 1991 he has been publishing a weekly page in the magazine L’Express. On the same year, he won the "Rare Document Award" at the Angers Festival du Scoop for managing to append both signatures of Yasser Arafat and Shimon Peres on the same drawing, a year before the Oslo Accords.

In 2006, Plantu and former Secretary General of the United Nations, Kofi Annan (Nobel Peace Prize in 2001) organized a symposium in New York, in which Cartooning for Peace was formed. This association promotes freedom of expression for cartoonists around the world and counts already 130 members.

Plantu has published more than 60 books of his press cartoon collection (Le Monde editions, Le Seuil).
